Mount Longhu Qixiu Academy: A Harmonious Blend of Tradition and Modernity

Designers Xiao Liang and Guobin Wang Create a Taoist-Inspired Theme Hotel

The design inspiration for the Mount Longhu Qixiu Academy originates from Taoist culture. Simplifying traditional architectural forms, the designers have created a space that exudes both a modern and traditional cultural atmosphere. The design concept is materialized into space elements through soft loading and display, revolving around the seven self-cultivation themes of morality, diet, kungfu, calligraphy, incense, music, and floriculture.

The Mount Longhu Qixiu Academy stands out for its unique location and cultural relevance. The hotel is situated in a World Natural Heritage Scenic Area, and its design is deeply rooted in Taoist culture. The designers have carefully preserved the local humanistic characteristics and re-artistic processing on the basis of the original ecology. The hotel's spiritual space is shaped through the well-ordered display of utensils and simple, nostalgic Chinese furniture, perfectly matching the brand's market positioning and business philosophy.

The project, which covers a total of 600 square meters, utilizes materials such as marble, wooden floor tile, latex paint, metal paint, composite floor, and art paint. The designers have implanted Taoist cultural elements in the form of decorative furnishings, creating a simple and quiet space in the symmetrical atmosphere, and pursuing the realm of "harmony between man and nature".

One of the key design features is the Big Dipper shaped lamp arrangement on top of the reception room, which echoes the cultural theme. The background uses a combination of virtual and real, with the change of light and shadow projecting dead branches on the veneer of ancient wood to form a poetic portrait. This corresponds to the calligraphy decoration on the wall, creating a natural, simple, and poetic theme atmosphere.

The project, which started in August 2017 and finished in October 2018, was a challenging one due to the short design cycle and a large number of drawings. The cooperation between different specialties posed a significant challenge, as did the task of combining technology and art perfectly. However, the designers successfully overcame these challenges to create a unique and inspiring space.

The Mount Longhu Qixiu Academy is a testament to the designers' ability to blend tradition and modernity. The design continues the sloping roof shape of the original building, choosing the local Chinese gallery structure with a sense of hierarchy to shape the traditional and innovative art space. The designers used modern techniques to build a healthy and poetic ecological environment and convey the core concept of nature. The simple tables and chairs, quiet lights, and log tones reveal the essence of Tao culture, creating a warm and simple atmosphere.
